There are certain things in life that bring me comfort.
A good book. A quiet place to sit. Coffee.
And the Disney Cruise Line sit-down breakfast menu.
I love this menu.
I really, really love this menu.
It doesn't matter which Disney ship I'm sailing on. It doesn't matter where in the world I happen to be.
The breakfast menu is waiting for me.
And it is gloriously familiar.
I've sailed on all seven Disney ships, and while an item or two might change occasionally, the breakfast menu has remained pretty much the same throughout my cruising adventures.
Some people might find that boring.
Not me.
I find it comforting.
Especially when peanut butter and jelly are involved.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Wait. There's a Sit-Down Breakfast?
For those of you who are new to Disney Cruise Line, let me explain.
Every morning, you have choices.
You can head to the buffet for breakfast, or you can enjoy a lovely sit-down meal in one of the ship's main dining restaurants.
Both are wonderful options.
But I prefer the sit-down breakfast.
Why?
Because someone brings me coffee, takes my order, and delivers my breakfast while I sit comfortably in a beautiful restaurant.
No carrying plates.
No wandering around looking for a table.
No balancing coffee, eggs, and a pastry while trying not to drop something.
Just me, my coffee, and the promise of breakfast.
It's a lovely way to start the day.
Where Do You Go?
The sit-down breakfast is typically served in one of the main dining restaurants, often the one near the atrium or Grand Hall.
You don't need a reservation.
You don't need to sign up.
You just show up.
On our recent cruises, breakfast was served from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
And please pay attention to that 9:30 time.
Because they mean it.
Really.
If breakfast seating ends at 9:30, you need to arrive before 9:30.
They are very, very strict about this.
You cannot wander in at 9:32, smile sweetly, and expect someone to find you a table.
Breakfast is closed.
Goodbye, pancakes.
But don't panic! That doesn't mean you have to finish eating by 9:30.
It just means you need to be seated before the cutoff.
My advice? Don't arrive at the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time.
You're on vacation.
There is absolutely no reason to turn breakfast into a competitive sport.
Welcome to Breakfast!
When you arrive, the head server or host will ask for your stateroom number and how many people are in your party.
Then someone will escort you to your table.
Easy.
Simple.
Wonderful.
Well...
Usually.
Because on our most recent Disney Dream cruises, we encountered a little mystery.
And it involved a window.
The Great Disney Dream Window Seat Mystery
I like sitting by windows.
Especially on cruise ships.
There's something wonderful about enjoying breakfast while watching the ocean.
So every morning on the Dream, we politely asked for a table by the window.
And every morning, we were told no.
No.
No.
And another no.
Sometimes the explanation was that the window tables were too large for our party.
Other mornings, we were told that section was full.
There always seemed to be a reason.
And I was getting frustrated.
Not furious.
Not ready to stage a breakfast rebellion.
Just frustrated.
Because on our previous 27 Disney cruises, requesting a window table had never been a problem.
But this time?
Not happening.
Then someone shared a little secret with us.
Those lovely window tables were apparently being saved for Concierge guests.
Suddenly, everything clicked.
The big tables.
The unavailable sections.
The mysterious inability to sit near a window.
It all made sense.
Now, I want to be clear. This is what we were told on our particular sailing, not something I can confirm as an official Disney Cruise Line policy.
Was I a little disappointed?
Yes.
Did it ruin my breakfast?
Absolutely not.
But it did answer a question that had been bothering me.
And if you're sailing Concierge and happen to be enjoying your breakfast beside a beautiful ocean view, please wave to the rest of us.
We'll be over here.
By the wall.
Enjoying our pancakes.
Meet Your Breakfast Crew
Once you're seated, you'll meet your breakfast servers.
And here's something that first-time cruisers might not realize.
Your breakfast servers are generally not the same team that takes care of you at dinner.
At dinner, you have your rotational dining team who follows you from restaurant to restaurant.
Breakfast is different.
You'll meet new servers, and I actually enjoy that.
It's another opportunity to meet some of the wonderful crew members working aboard the ship.
And sometimes it's an opportunity to appreciate your dinner servers even more.
Or possibly wonder if you can adopt your breakfast server and take them to dinner.
It depends on the service.
The Menu That Refuses to Change
Now we have arrived at my favorite part.
The food.
The glorious, familiar breakfast menu.
After all these years and all these cruises, I can practically predict what's going to be on it.
And that makes me ridiculously happy.
You'll find breakfast favorites like pancakes, waffles, eggs, omelets, and Eggs Benedict.
Speaking of Eggs Benedict...
I think it's the best egg dish on the entire menu.
But here's something important to know.
You can order as much or as little as you want.
This is a judgment-free breakfast zone.
Want pancakes and eggs?
Go ahead.
Want fruit, a pastry, and an omelet?
Wonderful.
Want to try something you've never eaten before?
This is your moment.
But there is one little detail you should know.
When you order an entrée, it doesn't necessarily come with all the sides you might expect.
For example, if you order Eggs Benedict, you get Eggs Benedict.
That's it.
If you want bacon, potatoes, or something else on the side, you need to order those separately.
Don't be shy.
Ask for what you want.
Nobody is going to judge your breakfast ambitions.
Especially not me.
I have my own breakfast priorities.
Which brings me to...
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Typhoon
Ladies and gentlemen.
We have arrived.
My favorite part of breakfast.
Possibly my favorite food item on the entire Disney Cruise Line fleet.
The Peanut Butter and Jelly Typhoon.
I love this thing.
I adore this thing.
If I could write it a thank-you letter, I probably would.
It's sweet, delicious, and absolutely wonderful with a cup of coffee.
And I have eaten it on every single Disney Cruise Line ship.
And these are just the Peanut Butter and Jelly Typhoons I actually remembered to photograph!
Trust me, I have eaten many, many more.
I don't have pictures from the Wonder or the Treasure, but I promise you, I ate them there too.
Apparently, sometimes my excitement for breakfast wins over my responsibility to document it.
The Magic.
The Wonder.
The Dream.
The Fantasy.
The Wish.
The Treasure.
And The Destiny.
Seven ships.
One Typhoon.
One very happy woman.
And here's what makes it even more entertaining.
It never looks exactly the same.
Sometimes the presentation is a little different.
Sometimes the proportions are slightly different.
Every ship seems to have its own interpretation.
But the important part?
That wonderful peanut butter and jelly goodness is always there.
And I love it.
Some people board a Disney cruise looking forward to the Broadway-style shows.
Others dream about the pools, the characters, or the beautiful destinations.
Me?
I'm wondering when I can have my next PB&J Typhoon.
We all have our priorities.
A Word About Time
As much as I love the sit-down breakfast, there is one thing you should know.
It isn't particularly fast.
In my experience, breakfast usually takes about an hour.
Sometimes a little less.
Sometimes a little more.
And that's perfectly fine with me.
I'm on vacation.
I have coffee.
I have my Typhoon.
Where exactly do I need to be?
But if you have an early excursion, a character activity, or somewhere you need to be, this might not be your best option.
Head to the buffet instead.
Grab your breakfast and get on with your morning.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But if you have the time?
Sit down.
Relax.
Let someone bring you breakfast.
And enjoy the fact that you don't have to cook it, serve it, or clean up afterward.
Even if you're not sitting by a window.
Clearly Maggie's Advice 🚢
If you're sailing with Disney Cruise Line, I highly recommend trying the sit-down breakfast at least once.
Here are a few things I've learned after 28 cruises:
Check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Breakfast locations and serving times can vary by ship and sailing.
Arrive before the seating cutoff. If breakfast ends at 9:30, don't assume they'll seat you at 9:31.
No reservations are needed. Just show up at the designated restaurant.
Order your sides separately. Don't assume your Eggs Benedict comes with potatoes or bacon.
Don't be afraid to order more than one thing. You're on a cruise. Enjoy breakfast.
Allow about an hour. This is a relaxing meal, not a quick stop.
Ask for a window table if you'd like one. Just know that requests aren't guaranteed.
Try the Peanut Butter and Jelly Typhoon. Please. I'm begging you.
And one final piece of advice.
Sometimes the best part of a Disney cruise isn't the destination, the entertainment, or even the ship itself.
Sometimes it's sitting in a beautiful restaurant, drinking coffee, eating something you love, and realizing that for the next hour, you have absolutely nothing you need to do.
Except maybe order another Typhoon.
And that sounds like a perfectly wonderful morning to me.
