Cosmic Ray’s Bathroom: The One Where I Got Lost #80
I got lost.
Yes.
Me.
Maggie Faerberboeck.
Age 53.
A grown woman who has been going to Disney World for decades.
Got lost trying to find my table after using a bathroom.
Not lost in Magic Kingdom.
Not lost in Tomorrowland.
Lost inside Cosmic Ray’s.
And not just a cute little,
“Hmm...which way did I come from?”
kind of lost.
No.
I got so horribly turned around that my anxiety woke up from its nap and immediately announced:
YOU WILL NEVER FIND YOUR TABLE AGAIN.
Calm down, anxiety.
Anxiety is such a liar.
Thank goodness.
Because I did eventually find my table.
But let me explain how a simple bathroom trip turned into an unexpected Tomorrowland adventure.
How I Ended Up Here
My child and I were having a marvelous day at Magic Kingdom when we got hungry.
So we decided to eat at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland.
Big mistake.
Our food was cold.
It was gross.
It was almost inedible.
But that is a rant for another day.
We did eat our apples.
The apples were dependable.
Anyway...
Whenever we eat at Cosmic Ray’s, we like to sit in the room with the animatronic alien singer.
You know the guy.
Sonny Eclipse.
While we were eating...
or attempting to eat...
or really just enjoying the reliability of fruit...
I had to use the bathroom.
In my head, this meant I would have to leave Cosmic Ray’s and use the restroom over by Tomorrowland Speedway.
But WAIT.
There is a bathroom inside Cosmic Ray’s.
How did I not know this?
The Great Disney Bathroom Quest strikes again.
Naturally, I had to investigate.
The Red Side/Blue Side Situation
I entered the restroom hallway by a blue restroom sign.
Please remember this important piece of information.
BLUE.
I used the bathroom.
Nothing dramatic happened.
Yet.
Then I left the restroom area by the red restroom sign.
And somewhere deep inside my brain, a tiny voice whispered:
Maggie...this is not where you came in.
Did I listen to that voice?
Of course not.
That would have made this story much shorter.
I confidently marched through the red side...
and suddenly...
nothing looked familiar.
Where was my table?
Where was my child?
Where was Sonny Eclipse?
Had Cosmic Ray’s completely rearranged itself during the three minutes I was in the bathroom?
That is when anxiety arrived.
Apparently anxiety had been waiting patiently outside the stall for its big moment.
You are lost.
You will never find your table.
You live at Cosmic Ray’s now.
Excuse me, anxiety.
Nobody asked you.
Thankfully, I eventually figured out what happened and found our table.
So here is my very important public service announcement:
The Cosmic Ray’s restroom area has TWO entrances and exits.
One side has blue restroom signs.
The other side has red restroom signs.
If you go in through blue and come out through red, you are going to end up in a different part of the restaurant.
And if you are directionally challenged and anxious like me...
this is information you want BEFORE you pee.
Knowledge is power.
From now on, I am remembering my color.
Blue side.
Red side.
Choose your bathroom adventure.
The Details
Location: Inside Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom
Nearest Landmark: Sonny Eclipse and the main Cosmic Ray’s dining areas
Best Time: Whenever Cosmic Ray’s is not completely mobbed, which may require a little Disney magic
Crowd Level: Busy. Very busy when the restaurant is busy.
Anything Special: There are two entrances/exits to the restroom area with different colored signs. Remember whether you entered on the red side or blue side. Trust me.
The Official Ruling
Situation
For a bathroom inside an extremely busy quick-service restaurant, it gets the job done.
Nothing magical.
Nothing horrifying.
Just...good enough.
Cold Air
The air conditioning worked enough.
Not glorious bathroom refrigerator air.
But I wasn't sweating.
I'll take it.
Stall Situation
There were enough stalls to keep things moving when I visited.
There is also a handicap-accessible stall.
Paper Situation
No paper emergency.
That is always a win.
Flush Situation
No memorable toilet drama.
Sometimes boring is beautiful.
Noise Level
Busy.
Cosmic Ray’s is not exactly where you go when you want to contemplate the meaning of life in silence.
There are people.
Lots of people.
Smell
Fine.
Which, for a packed theme park restaurant bathroom, deserves some respect.
Handwashing Area
And now we need to discuss the sinks.
They are blue.
Very blue.
Atrociously blue.
I understand we are in Tomorrowland.
I understand we are going for futuristic.
But these sinks are not my favorite Disney design decision.
Not even close.
Decor
The bathroom does have some fun space details.
There are cool, glittery silver touches that give it a little Tomorrowland sparkle.
I liked those.
The sinks?
Still no.
Companion Restroom
I did not see a companion restroom in this restroom area.
There was a handicap-accessible stall inside the women’s restroom.
Overall Comfort
Good enough.
It was busy.
The restaurant was busy.
The bathroom was busy.
But it was reasonably clean, the air conditioning worked, and it handled the crowds fairly well.
The biggest problem wasn't actually the bathroom.
It was me leaving through the wrong door.
Final Verdict
The Cosmic Ray’s bathroom is perfectly acceptable for a very busy Magic Kingdom quick-service restaurant.
It isn't going to win the Great Disney Bathroom Quest.
The blue sinks certainly aren't helping its case.
But it is convenient.
It has some fun silver space details.
And most importantly...
I learned something.
REMEMBER YOUR COLOR.
If you enter through the blue side, leave through the blue side.
If you enter through the red side, leave through the red side.
Otherwise, you too may emerge from the bathroom, stare into the chaos of Cosmic Ray’s and wonder if your family has vanished into another dimension.
Mine had not.
My table was still there.
My child was still there.
Sonny Eclipse was still singing.
And my anxiety?
Still a liar.
