Wilderness Lodge & Boulder Ridge: The Great Disney Bathroom Challenge
Wilderness Lodge and Boulder Ridge have six public bathrooms.
And somehow...
four of them have borders.
I don't know who was in charge of bathroom borders, but they clearly had a vision.
"I'd like more borders."
"How many?"
"Yes."
Once I noticed it, I couldn't stop looking for them. Every bathroom had me peeking around the corners like I was on some sort of decorative border scavenger hunt.
Now for the real challenge... can you guess which bathroom has which border?
Wilderness Lodge is my absolute favorite Disney resort.
It is magnificent.
It feels like a grand national park lodge built from giant logs, towering stone fireplaces, and cozy corners.
Even though it is a Disney resort, Mickey and friends aren't shouting for your attention every five feet.
They're there.
They're just politely blending into the background.
The real star is the lodge itself.
Everything feels calm.
Peaceful.
Like the building took a deep breath and invited you to do the same.
I think being surrounded by trees and water helps.
The bathrooms follow that same philosophy.
They aren't flashy.
They don't try to steal the show.
They simply belong.
Wood tones.
Natural colors.
Simple details.
Nothing feels out of place.
Now...
There is one absolutely horrible bathroom in this collection.
We'll talk about that disaster when we get there.
But the other five?
They quietly do exactly what Wilderness Lodge does best.
They make you feel like you've wandered into the world's nicest log cabin... that just happens to have toilets.
One little change before we begin.
Up until now I've counted from worst to best.
But from here on out, we're doing things differently.
We're starting with the champion and working our way down to the bathroom that made me question Disney's life choices.
Bathroom #1: Beneath the Wilderness Lodge Rooms #70
This was a hard decision.
A really hard decision.
But after much overthinking (my favorite hobby), this bathroom earned the top spot.
I proudly give it an A.
Now here's the funny part.
It isn't the prettiest bathroom.
In fact...
It's kind of plain.
There is a border, an ugly one.
Two framed pictures.
And that's about it.
As I'm typing this, part of my brain keeps yelling,
"Where's the theme?"
"Where are the magical details?"
But then the reasonable part of my brain reminds me...
A great bathroom isn't just about pretty tile.
It's about how it makes you feel.
And this bathroom made me happy.
You know why?
It smelled amazing.
Yes.
I ranked a bathroom number one because of the smell.
I've officially reached the stage of life where I critique hand soap.
The soap was incredible.
It was thick.
Rich.
It smelled like it belonged in a fancy spa instead of a public restroom.
I may or may not have washed my hands a little longer than necessary.
No regrets.
The location also deserves an award.
This bathroom is hidden.
There are signs pointing you in the right direction, but then the path starts feeling... suspicious.
You're walking underneath the guest rooms thinking,
"Surely I'm about to end up in someone's backyard."
Then...
A tiny little restroom sign appears.
Congratulations.
You've completed your Wilderness Lodge bathroom quest.
The bathroom itself is tucked behind the trees, making it feel peaceful and secluded.
Inside, the air conditioning was glorious.
The kind that makes you want to stand there for another minute pretending you're still drying your hands.
There were three clean stalls.
Everything smelled fresh.
There wasn't another person inside.
There was even a real bench.
An actual bench.
Not because someone forgot to move it.
Because someone intentionally thought,
"People might like a place to sit."
Imagine that.
There was also a nice hamper for towels.
It's the little things.
This bathroom may not win any awards for elaborate theming.
But it absolutely wins for comfort.
And sometimes...
Comfort is the real Disney magic.
Bathroom #2: Whispering Canyon Café / Lobby Bathroom #71
This bathroom has a tiny sink.
And I mean tiny.
It is the perfect height for little kids to wash their hands all by themselves.
I watched a few children use it, and the smiles on their faces were priceless.
Disney didn't have to add that sink.
But they did.
And I love them for it.
Now...
I walked into this bathroom with a giant chip on my shoulder.
G and I have had some rough experiences here over the years.
So I was fully prepared to hate it.
But I made myself take a deep breath.
Pretend I had never seen it before.
And judge it like a normal person.
Turns out...
It's actually a good bathroom.
Who knew?
It sits in the far corner of the Wilderness Lodge lobby, right next to the accessible ramp for Whispering Canyon Café.
That means it gets busy.
Really busy.
I visited it twice, and both times it handled the crowds surprisingly well.
It stayed clean.
The air conditioning kind of worked.
Not "I need a sweater" cold.
More like, "Well... at least I'm not sweating."
The design is actually my favorite in all of Wilderness Lodge.
It has an acorn border.
An acorn picture.
The acorns committed to the theme, and I respect that.
There are also Native American-inspired decorations that tie everything together, so it feels like it belongs in the lodge.
The layout, however...
Is a little odd.
The stalls are all on the left.
The sinks are all on the right.
And between them is one giant wall.
It's like someone decided the toilets and the sinks had a falling out years ago and refuse to let them speak to each other.
So everyone ends up crossing paths in the middle.
People heading to the stalls.
People heading to the sinks.
It's a little bathroom tango.
The biggest challenge, though, is the door.
That thing is heavy.
You have to really pull.
Now, I know I don't exactly have superhero upper-body strength.
But I've been working out.
And even I gave that door a look that said,
"Really?"
In the end, this bathroom earns a solid B+.
The adorable little sink.
The acorns.
The thoughtful theming.
They all nudged it into second place.
And honestly...
I'm happy I was wrong about this one.
Bathroom #3: Geyser Point / Outdoor Recreation Bathroom #72
Before we talk about this bathroom...
I need to make a public service announcement.
Geyser Point might be the best restaurant at Walt Disney World.
The atmosphere?
Perfection.
The food?
Actually good.
Not "theme park good."
Good good.
I'll be reviewing the restaurant soon.
But today we have more pressing matters.
Bathrooms.
Now let me explain this one because it's a little confusing.
Technically, it's attached to Geyser Point.
But it's also the bathroom for the outdoor recreation area.
People eating lunch use it.
People playing ping pong use it.
People shooting pool use it.
People relaxing by the fire use it.
So in my bathroom brain...
This counts as a public bathroom.
And what a beautiful bathroom it is.
This one absolutely understood the Wilderness Lodge assignment.
The fixtures are gorgeous.
The finishes are beautiful.
Everything feels warm, rustic, and perfectly at home with the resort.
I walked in and immediately thought,
"Now THIS is what I was hoping to see."
Unfortunately...
It's tiny.
Really tiny.
Remember all those people eating, playing games, and hanging out?
They're all sharing this one bathroom.
There are only two stalls.
One standard.
One accessible.
And...
One sink.
One.
Single.
Sink.
As G would say,
"This bathroom is not designed for a Crohn's attack."
It simply isn't big enough for the number of people using it.
By the time I visited, it needed a quick freshening up.
Nothing terrible.
Just the kind of wear and tear that happens when a small bathroom has way too many guests.
And that's a shame.
Because if this bathroom were just a little bigger...
It might have won the entire Wilderness Lodge challenge.
Instead, it earns a solid B.
Maybe even a B-.
I wish I could wave a magic wand...
Stretch the walls out just a little...
Add another sink.
A couple more stalls.
And let this beautiful bathroom become everything it was meant to be.
Bathroom #4: Boulder Ridge Bathroom #73
This bathroom is tucked inside Boulder Ridge.
And if you've never wandered over there...
You should.
Boulder Ridge is magnificent.
It feels quiet.
Peaceful.
Like someone picked up a cozy national park lodge and dropped it next to Wilderness Lodge.
And then...
I saw the restroom signs.
These are the best restroom signs on the entire Wilderness Lodge property.
I loved them immediately.
One glance and you know exactly where you are.
They fit the story.
They fit the building.
They made my little bathroom-loving heart ridiculously happy.
Because, as you know...
Good Bathroom signs equal happiness.
Naturally, I expected the bathroom itself to continue the magic.
Sadly...
It didn't.
The bathroom was perfectly fine.
Just...
Fine.
Not bad.
Not amazing.
Just standing there, quietly doing its job.
These are single-stall bathrooms, and there isn't a changing table.
The tile is pretty.
There is, of course, an acorn border.
Apparently acorns were the decorating theme of the day.
Everything was clean.
The air conditioning worked.
It checked all the important boxes.
But after those adorable signs...
I was expecting a little more personality.
A little more whimsy.
A little something that made me smile the way the signs did.
Instead, the bathroom felt very practical.
Very utilitarian.
It earns a B.
And honestly...
That's not a bad grade.
The signs just set expectations so high that the bathroom never quite caught up.
Bathroom #5: By the Pool #74
This bathroom lives inside a log cabin.
A real, honest-to-goodness log cabin.
Only Disney would look at a pool and think,
"You know what this needs? A tiny cabin with a bathroom inside."
And honestly...
I fully support that decision.
This is a single-stall bathroom.
The inside is gorgeous.
The tile is stylish.
I especially love the stonework up near the ceiling.
It gives the room a polished, upscale feel.
Unfortunately, when I visited, it wasn't quite as clean as the other Wilderness Lodge bathrooms.
The air conditioning was also trying its best...
But it wasn't winning.
Now I'm about to say something that might sound a little strange.
I love the log cabin.
I love the sophisticated tile.
But...
I don't think they belong together.
I know.
I'm being picky.
Probably too picky.
But hear me out.
The outside of the bathroom says,
"Welcome to a cozy cabin in the Wyoming wilderness."
The inside says,
"Luxury condo in downtown Manhattan."
They just don't tell the same story.
Disney is usually so good at carrying a theme from the front door all the way to the sink.
Here, it feels like two designers met for lunch, had completely different ideas, and both got approved.
Would an acorn border have fixed everything?
Maybe.
Would an acorn picture have made my little bathroom-loving heart happy?
Absolutely.
Even so, this is still a very nice bathroom.
It's in a great location.
It's convenient for the pool.
And despite my decorating opinions, it's a solid B.
I just wish the inside and the outside had been introduced to each other.
Bathroom #6: Roaring Fork Bathroom #75
We have arrived.
The bottom of the list.
The bathroom that single-handedly dragged down an otherwise wonderful resort.
This is the worst bathroom in the Magic Kingdom resort area.
At least from the ones I've visited.
Could another resort have one that's worse?
Maybe.
I haven't seen every hotel bathroom yet.
But this one has set the bar so low it might be underground.
It earns an F-.
Yes.
An F-minus.
No extra credit.
No curve.
No second chances.
This bathroom sits right next to Roaring Fork, Wilderness Lodge's quick-service restaurant.
It's also on one of the busiest walkways in the resort.
Huge restroom signs point guests right to it.
Families.
Restaurant guests.
People heading to the pool.
Everyone ends up here.
And then they open the door...
Bless their hearts.
This bathroom has...
Two stalls.
For all those people.
Two.
There is also...
One sink.
One.
Who approved this?
The bathroom feels cramped.
Hot.
Smelly.
Chaotic.
Stressful.
It's the kind of bathroom where everyone silently stares at the occupied stall doors, hoping someone comes out soon.
G and I have been trapped in this bathroom before.
And let me tell you...
Women become surprisingly competitive when there are only two stalls.
Disney magic disappears very quickly.
The only decoration is...
A fish border.
Fish.
Where did the fish come from?
I suppose people go fishing at a wilderness lodge.
So technically...
Fine.
But the fish feel like they wandered into the wrong meeting.
There isn't even a changing table.
The room is plain.
Crowded.
And completely overwhelmed by the number of people using it.
This is one of those bathrooms my family still talks about.
Yes.
We are the kind of family that remembers bad bathrooms years later.
If you have anxiety...
Skip this one.
If you have Crohn's...
Definitely skip this one.
Walk a little farther.
Go to the peaceful bathroom tucked under the guest rooms.
Go to the lobby.
Go almost anywhere else.
Your future self will thank you.
Final Verdict
I really enjoyed the Wilderness Lodge bathroom quest.
These bathrooms feel like the resort itself.
Quiet.
Cozy.
Thoughtfully designed.
(Well... all except for one evil little bathroom that shall remain at the bottom of my rankings forever.)
The theming isn't over the top.
It doesn't need to be.
Everything fits the story of the lodge, and I appreciated that.
The one thing that surprised me, though, was the lack of companion restrooms.
I didn't find a single public companion restroom during this challenge.
That was disappointing.
Most of the other Magic Kingdom resorts have at least two, and they make such a difference for so many families.
Companion restrooms matter.
They help guests with disabilities, caregivers, families, and anyone who simply needs a little extra space and privacy.
Wilderness Lodge is such a welcoming, peaceful resort.
I hope companion restrooms are added here someday.
Because everyone deserves to experience this beautiful lodge a little more comfortably.
The Bathroom Adventure Continues! 🚽
One bathroom down. Approximately a million more to go. Okay, slight exaggeration. But I'm working my way through Walt Disney World, one restroom at a time. From beautiful bathrooms to questionable toilet paper, I'm inspecting it all.

Why Do I Care So Much About Bathrooms?
Because bathrooms matter. Not just the pretty ones or the ones with interesting wallpaper. The practical ones. The quiet ones. The accessible ones. The ones that can turn a stressful day into a manageable one.
