Bathroom #27: The Peaceful Hideaway That Has a Time Limit

And what makes this bathroom so interesting is the juxtaposition between two completely different architectural designs.

Hidden away in the Japan Pavilion is a cute, tiny little bathroom.

And when I say hidden…

I mean you have to commit.

This bathroom is located next to Katsura Grill.

Up the hill.

Away from the main walkway.

Away from the crowds.

Away from the chaos.

Basically, you leave EPCOT for a few minutes and accidentally wander into a peaceful little corner of Japan.

And friends…

In the morning?

This area is magical.

There are tables with umbrellas.

You are surrounded by trees, flowers, umbrellas, and the sound of a little stream.

There are quiet places to sit.

Nature is everywhere.

You can hear a little gurgling stream.

This bathroom area has one of the most relaxing and peaceful views you will ever find outside a bathroom.

For a moment, you forget you are standing in a theme park with thousands of people wearing matching shirts and debating their next Lightning Lane.

You actually feel like you found a quiet spot in Japan.

The Bathroom Adventure

Here is where my anxiety entered the story.

The restaurant was closed.

But the bathroom doors were open.

So obviously my brain said:

“Are we allowed to use this?”

“Is this a secret Cast Member bathroom?”

“Are alarms going to go off?”

“Will Mickey himself appear and ask why I opened the forbidden bathroom door?”

So I asked a Cast Member.

He looked at me funny.

(Which, honestly, happens to me more than I care to admit.)

And he said:

“Of course it’s open.”

Good news.

No alarms.

No bathroom crimes committed.

First Impression

The outside is adorable.

Such a cute outside.

The bathroom doors have beautiful Japanese artwork on them.

So when I opened the door, I was ready.

I thought this was going to be special.

I was expecting details.

Artwork.

A continuation of the beautiful Japan Pavilion theming.

And then…

Nope.

The magic stopped at the door.

Inside is just a small, basic bathroom.

A very, very small bathroom.

Three stalls.

One sink.

That’s it.

After walking through one of the prettiest areas in EPCOT, the inside felt a little disappointing.

Details

Location: Japan Pavilion
Landmark: Next to Katsura Grill, up the hill
Best Time to Visit: Morning
Crowd Level: Changes dramatically

Morning Maggie had a wonderful experience.

The bathroom was spotless.

Quiet.

Empty.

The entire area was peaceful.

The only other person around was the Cast Member cleaning the bathroom.

And because this bathroom is tiny, I wasn’t able to get pictures inside.

She was working hard and I wasn’t about to squeeze around her like a bathroom paparazzi.

Respect the Cast Members.

Always.

But Then Lunch Happened…

I came back around lunchtime.

And apparently everyone else discovered my peaceful little bathroom.

The quiet garden bathroom had transformed.

The line for the women’s restroom was out the door.

People everywhere.

Chaos.

The peaceful stream was still gurgling, but now it had bathroom panic energy happening nearby.

A three-stall bathroom just cannot handle a lunchtime EPCOT crowd.

Anything Special?

The location.

This is one of the prettiest bathroom areas in EPCOT.

The seating.

The shade.

The peaceful surroundings.

The walk up the hill.

The outside gets a 10/10.

The inside?

Well…

The inside forgot it was invited to the Japan Pavilion.

Official Bathroom Ranking

Toilet Paper: Standard Disney Survival Paper

Flush Situation: Automatic Acceptable

Final Verdict

This bathroom is a tale of two completely different experiences.

Morning?

A peaceful hidden treasure.

A quiet escape.

A little EPCOT miracle tucked away on a hill.

After 11?

Absolutely avoid.

That tiny bathroom does not stand a chance against hungry Katsura Grill crowds.

Visit early.

Enjoy the peace.

Listen to the stream.

Then leave before everyone else discovers your secret.
