🍄 Welcome to the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Bathrooms! Let’s-a Go!
I wasn't expecting a bathroom to make me nostalgic.
But here we are.
Super Mario has been part of our family for years.
When G and L were younger, we played Mario together. A lot.
There was jumping.
There was yelling.
There was falling into holes.
There was someone insisting that the controller wasn't working when clearly the controller was NOT the problem.
And there was me, probably not being particularly good at any of it.
Those little Mario sounds were part of our house.
And then my children grew up.
Funny how they do that without asking permission.
So walking into SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe felt different for me.
I wasn't just looking at Mario.
I was remembering us.
And then, because I am me, I walked into the bathroom.
And somehow Universal managed to put all those little Mario memories in there too.
🍄
The pipes.
The blocks.
The colors.
The stars, flowers and mushrooms hidden in the wall tile.
The underwater scene while you're washing your hands.
Even the baby-changing area.
Everywhere I looked, there was another tiny detail that made me smile.
I kept thinking:
My kids would have LOVED this when they were little.
And then I realized something.
We still love it now.
Maybe that's why this bathroom got me.
It isn't just an incredibly themed bathroom.
For a few minutes, I wasn't 53 years old wandering around Epic Universe taking pictures of toilets.
I was a mom playing Mario with her kids again.
And that?
That is pretty darn special.
Even for a bathroom.
Especially for a bathroom.
Mario understands something very important: when you have to go, this is NOT the time for a difficult level. Follow the signs. Find the bathroom. Save the princess later.
Mario went wild with the pipes, mushrooms, stars and underwater sinks... and then apparently ran out of coins when he got to the restroom signs.
Apparently I have entered World 2-2. Thankfully, washing my hands is much easier than keeping Mario alive underwater.
The underwater adventure continues right into the stalls. Because Mario would never settle for boring beige bathroom tile.
Of course I inspected the bathroom tile. Stars, flowers and mushrooms. Somewhere along the way, reviewing bathroom tile became one of the highlights of my day.
Even the water fountains got more theming than the actual restroom signs. Palm tree, beach, crabs... Mario, NOW you’re showing off.
Final Thoughts
I walked into this bathroom expecting to take some pictures, inspect the toilets and move on to the next one.
Instead, I found myself thinking about all those years of playing Mario with the kids.
The sounds. The colors. The underwater levels. The mushrooms and stars. All those little things that used to be part of an ordinary day at our house were suddenly surrounding me in a bathroom at Epic Universe.
My kids are grown now. Those days of sitting together playing Mario are behind us.
But for a few minutes, standing there in World 2-2 and obsessing over bathroom tile, they didn't feel quite so far away.
And maybe that's why I love this bathroom so much.
It's ridiculously themed. It's fun. It's completely over the top. But mostly, it made me remember us.
Who knew a bathroom could do that?

Let’s-a go, indeed.
There's More Behind These Bathroom Doors! 🚽
Apparently, I can't visit a theme park without inspecting the bathrooms. And Universal has given me plenty to talk about. Incredible theming, interesting signs, surprisingly impressive sinks, and yes, even black toilets.
